Announcing Our 2025 Summer of Planning!
A summer full of FREE PD for Moving Writers Community Members!
Over the past few summers, the Moving Writers Community has taken a hiatus while I led professional development over at Camp Rewrite. But this year, it just feels good to be home. This summer, I am excited to feature 10 weeks of resources, walk-throughs, and live chats about one of my very favorite teacherly topics: PLANNING.
BEST of all, 100% of this is included in your $5/month or $50/year Moving Writers Community membership!
Here’s the summer:
Before we talk about what this means in more detail, allow me to provide a caveat that will assuage my guilt, which will inevitably arise. I am sure elements of this will shift and change. You know how summer is. And how children (and their activities) are. And putting this in print now helps me make sure I can block this time for our professional development together, but the dates and times might shift for live events. I will announce those changes if/when they happen and give you as much notice as possible. But please accept my apology and gratitude for your flexibility in advance.
Now, let’s get into the exciting stuff!
Mighty Networks Trial
We will be engaging in our summer work on Mighty Networks, which you may be familiar with from the Book Love Book Club! I don’t love Substack, but it works. This summer feels like a good moment to experiment with something new and see if we like it forever or not!
Details for logging in and setting up your Mighty Networks account will be forthcoming!
Planning the 2025-2026 School Year
There is a teacher in my school who plans his upcoming school year to the day each summer. This means that on August 28, he can tell you what he’s teaching on April 3.
This is NOT what we will be doing this summer.
Instead, we are going to be creating a workable, flexible, responsive blueprint for what the 2025-2026 school year might look like in each of our preps. We will:
Take a detailed, meaningful look back at this past school year.
Create goals, must-dos, and might-dos for 2025-2026
Identify writing skills and specific writing strategies we will teach next year. (With the help of my NEW BOOK, Mini Moves for Every Writer)
Identify reading skills and specific reading strategies we will teach next year.
Map it all out
Make plans for regular reflection during the upcoming school year
Along the way, I will be there planning my own upcoming school year and modeling the process for you. And we’ll be meeting 2-3 times per month live to troubleshoot, ask questions, and share our thinking!
I’ll be encouraging your professional reading and bringing you along on my own.
We’ll be doing all of this with an eye toward balance and rest. Because we need that too.
I am over the moon to spend this time with you.
I hope you’ll join us — just for this summer or for the whole next school year as we work together to make this job more sustainable and successful together.
What questions do you have about our summer work? What are you most excited about? Leave a comment; I’m desperate for your feedback. :)
This is so definitely something I need. This past school year has been a struggle. I took on an additional new class, and I know I did not do enough planning before the year began. (I had the best of intentions, but did not follow through with that during the summer.) I spent much of the year feeling I was only only day ahead of the kids. I'm hoping that what you are providing will help me to stay on track, and to go into next school year feeling better prepared and refreshed.
I'm super excited. --But how do I sign up for this?
