Apply to join the FREE Mini Moves Fall Educator Cohort
Free PD. Free materials + resources. Help me finish this book.
You might know the YouTube channel I created with my social-studies-bestie-next-door, Sam. We are writing a new book about these mini moves, and we’re looking for ELA, social studies, math and science classroom educators to join our Fall educator cohort! Check out the brief description of our upcoming book below:
Mini Moves for Every Writer is a book that simplifies, essentializes, and empowers the teaching of writing -- not only for English teachers, but for every teacher. This book will give educators a go-to method for teaching individual, fundamental writing skills that will empower students to be successful writers across the curriculum.
While “writer” may not be an identity your students advertise (or even recognize), they create, generate, and curate content through writing both inside and outside of the classroom every day. Across the school day, students are composing:
Class notes
Short answer responses
Summaries
Hypotheses
Problem sets
Answers to word problems
Presentations
Explanations
Warm-ups
Exit tickets
Lab reports
Essays
Reflections
In this cohort, you will join other educators across multiple disciplines to learn how to incorporate our Mini Moves strategies into your instruction. These quick and easy-to-apply strategies will empower the writers in your classroom and enhance students’ content literacy.
This cohort is open to all secondary ELA, social studies, science, and math educators who are currently in the classroom. Cohort teachers will be encouraged to try Mini Moves strategies with their students and collect student samples. Solution Tree, our publisher, will provide credit and permission forms to any student whose writing samples are selected for publication in the book.
The Details:
We are looking for a limited number of committed 6-12th-grade educators across a variety of content areas to participate. If you're interested, please complete our application.
Then:
Join us Wednesday, September 4 from 7-8:30pm EST for a training session. You'll get the materials and information you need to try these moves in your own classroom.
Two other one-hour office hour sessions will be held to chat and troubleshoot the work with your students.
You will gather student samples to share with us!
Please consider applying to join us and share with your colleagues — especially content-area colleagues who might be down to play!
I am interested, however I think this meeting time may be during our btsn. I'm going to check and revisit.
