Digital Grammar, Polishing + Presentation Stations You Can Use RIGHT NOW.
A FREE set of stations for your classroom + a preview of January's newsletter
Happy Holidays, friends,
It has been such a gift to me to hear how Inside the Blended Workshop is helping you navigate this school year. In truth, it’s helping me, too — keeping my brain alive when it sometimes wants to shut down, giving me something to look forward to when I want to stay home and hide. So, thank you for being here, for being a part of this conversation, and part of my online teacher family.
The January issue of the newsletter won’t hit your inbox until January 2, but I thought you might want to know what’s coming:
A deep dive into grammar inquiry — a method that lets students study grammar in a meaningful way that’s largely driven by them, not us! It’s about what grammar can do for a writer, not just about rules that “must” be followed. I’ll give you a whole digital grammar inquiry lesson that can be used with remote or face-to-face students and a process to follow to quickly create your own grammar inquiry lessons!
Midyear, I always want my students to take a minute to reflect and set some new goals for their reading and writing. I’m sharing a quick tool that will help you do this work in a way that matters. (And I’ll also be sharing some news about an on-demand course on just this very topic!)
I recently shared on Twitter that one of my very favorite (and most effective) tools for teaching discrete reading strategies is Pixar short films. I received a lot of questions about this: which films? Which strategies? How do you do it? I’ll give you the ins and outs plus some film-and-skill pairings!
A couple of writing lessons ready to go as soon as you need them!
Here’s a little something I’ve been using this year: You know those clean-up tasks writers need to do? They’re small, so they don’t constitute a whole lesson, but our students need a reminder to do them. I’ve bundled them all up in a Grammar, Polishing, and Presentation station activity you can use face to face or remotely!
Of course, this is specific to my students and the most recent piece of writing they finished up. But you are invited to make a copy + edit it to fit your students’ needs!
