Happy end-of-October! Our giant summer reading / community learning experience is over (I’m doing it AGAIN next year. Different books. Is this something you’d like to know more about for your department / school?), and finally my 100% focus is on my students in my classes. It’s glorious.
Seventh graders are finishing their music memoirs, and I am constantly having to remind myself what I always remind you: there is no such thing as perfect writing. We are mastering a limited number of skills this time so we can build on those skills next time.
Eighth graders are in the early stages of their own personal essays, which we will use and tweak and adapt for high school applications.
As for me, I’m on my continual quest to learn flexibility, to have routine AND fun, and to be responsive to what I see happening in front of me.
