Happy New Year, dear ones.
I’m back at school today and here’s what my kids are doing to get through the day!
We’re looking at some New Years insta poetry & then using it as inspiration for our own. I teach a 55-minute class period. I’m adding 10 minutes of independent reading to the top of the class, and that’s a wrap for day one! You could build in some revision or peer feedback and extend this into two class periods!
Here are the slides & a handout for students:
I hope you can use this to get through your first day(s) back to school! This weekend, I’ll be back in my regular rhythm — this week with a Q&A about what I’m doing to try to solve my teaching burn out right now.
XOXO,
Rebekah
Hi Rebekah - thank you for this! I launched this with my students, and realized it was a nice of formative for me to see that this can be developed further into a mini-unit before our Chinese New Year break. I'm wondering if you could share with me a few more IG Poets so I can pull some samples my students and I can dissect together. Thank you so much!
Thanks for your posts! Always easier to go back to school with some inspiration.
Was excited to finally watch the executive functioning webinar from November. I watched part of it and did some thinking work about how to fit it into my classroom but when I went back to finish, I could no longer find the link in Substack or Gumroad or my email. Any suggestions? Thanks!
