Summer PD: Cultivating Word Wonder
On the most important step to meaningful vocabulary instruction
Welcome back!
If you’ve been around here any length of time at all, you’ve heard me talk about language field guides — the way I teach vocabulary by encouraging students to explore words.
I’ve put out a lot of resources about creating free-choice field notes and root word field notes, but at the foundation of all this work is one thing: wonder. Curiosity. Genuine, intrinsic inquiry.
This is a session from my six-session language field guides bundle. It’s all about how we build the energy for truly curious word work with students — the kind of curiosity that will propel them through a school-year (and, hopefully, a lifetime) of language exploration.
