Teachers often tell me that their students are stunted when it comes to developing individual ideas for their own writing. And sometimes this is true. But, more often than not, I think what teachers (and students) mean when they bemoan not having ideas is actually that they don’t have writing projects in mind.
Most writers — even those in our classroom — have ideas. I could write about Fortnite. I could write about Across the Spiderverse. I could write about my grandmother. I could write about camping with my family.
What’s more abstract is how to turn those ideas into actual pieces of writing that have a form and structure and spread out across pages.
That’s why I developed this PD.
