Virtual Book Clubs, Digital Choice Boards, Lessons to Use Tomorrow + A Little Gift
A preview of Issue 04 of Inside the Blended Workshop newsletter + podcast
Let’s make your November a little easier, shall we?
The November issue of Inside the Blended Workshop is headed to the inboxes of members on Saturday, October 24. Here’s what members can expect to see (plus a tiny gift for everyone!)
A deep dive into the set-up and management of virtual book clubs. Whether your students are completely virtual, face-to-face (but masked and distanced), or something in the middle, this system will set up ready-to-roll book clubs that will teach discrete reading strategies, encourage students to practice them, foster communication between students, and help them think more critically about their reading. I’ll give you my book club planning dashboard plus a book club unit focused on theme.
Ideas for using digital choice boards in reading and writing workshops! I’ll give you two — one focused on independent notebook writing and a mini-lesson choice board I made for my students. In fact, I’ll give you that one now!
A more responsive book request form (for the student who has no idea what book he or she wants!) to get paper books safely in students’ hands! You’ll get my form, ready to use with your students.
Ideas for using a very simple digital dialogue journal to reduce the time spent conferring during class or on your own time after class.
Two lessons to go — a video mini-lesson on adding detail by using introductory phrases and a longer lesson / mini-unit on teaching students to write stronger summaries (by actually teaching them to write synopses).
We’re also preparing for our FIRST live Q&A Chat on Sunday, October 25 @ 7pm EST. (It will be recorded in case you can’t make it live!)
If you’re not a member already, we’d love to have you join our community where we are brainstorming together and supporting one another to make it through this crazy, crazy school year!
